Business: Accessing Digital Books

Use this guide for help in your business courses and assignments.

Google Book Search

Accessing Digital Books

The library offers access to electronic books through several providers. All the books are in the library's catalog, or you can search directly in the vendor's interface.

Search for digital books

SpringerLink Books

Search the library's catalog or go directly to SpringerLink. It is difficult to limit to our holdings, but if we have access to a title you will see a green icon.

You can download the PDF of any book chapter and print, save, or send to your mobile device. You are not able to download the entire book at once, but you can search the full text to find the chapters you need.

HathiTrust Books

Click on the title you want, and scroll down to the item information to get the link to the content. Click on HathiTrust Digital Library to link to the content.

Get it Online

Once you’re in there, you can search for the exact content you want, or flip through the pages. You can download a page at a time. You won’t be able to download the whole book from HathiTrust, but since many of the books are also in Google Books you can download it from there.

Due to contractual issues beyond our control, HathiTrust doesn’t always link directly to the Google Books version. Wherever possible, the library catalog itself will link you to the Google Books version, or you can search Google Books directly.

EBSCO eBooks

If you want to check out and download an EBSCO eBook (rather than reading on screen), you have to follow a few extra steps. You only have to do the initial set up one time.

  1. Download Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Create an Adobe ID or sign in with an existing ID. This will allow you to authorize that computer.
  3. Search for the book on EBSCO eBooks or link through the library catalog. Create a MyEBSCO account or log in with an exisiting account to download the book.
  4. Click on the Download link and then click to open with Adobe Digital Editions.
  5. The book will appear in Adobe Digital Editions for reading on your computer.
  6. If you want to download to your mobile device, here are the steps to follow. Please note: this format cannot be read on Amazon Kindles.
  •   Barnes & Noble Nook: Attach your Nook to the computer with the USB cord. Adobe Digital Editions will recognize your Nook and allow you to drag the file onto the Nook folder.
  • Apple iOS (this is available for Android but we haven't tested it yet):
  1. Download the free Bluefire Reader (this is basically the mobile version of Adobe Digital Editions).
  2. Sign in with your Adobe ID and authorize the device.
  3. Connect your device with the USB cord.
  4. In iTunes click on the Apps tab and scroll down to File Sharing.
  5. Click on Bluefire Reader to see your list of available titles. Click on Add to see your Adobe Digital Editions books. Click on the file and it will sync to your iPad.
