Successfully tracking how long 20 seconds is can be difficult. If you are just counting in your head, make sure to count “one-one thousand, two-one thousand,” etc. or “one-mississippi, two-mississippi,” etc. so that you do not count too fast. You can also sing or recite something to yourself that you know the timing for, in order to keep time.
Some examples are singing the Happy Birthday song to yourself twice, reciting the original Star Trek opening lines, the chorus of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” the chorus of Toto’s “Africa,” or the chorus of Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts.” See this article for some more pop examples or listen to the Jolene chorus below for inspiration!
