Data visualization is the graphical representation of information and data in pictorial or graphical formats. Data visualization helps you turn all that granular data into easily understood, visually compelling, and useful information.

Tableau is a data visualization platform that specializes is business analytics.  With Tableau you can easily explore and manage your data, make discoveries, and quickly share insights.  While this is a paid service, there are free licenses for students and instructors available upon request.  

Palladio, from Stanford University's Humanities + Design lab, is a free web-based tool for visualizing historical data with ease.  Maps, graphs, lists, and galleries allow you to view the dimensions and relationships in your dataset in various and visually attractive ways. 

Breve, also from Stanford University, is a tool that makes messy or incomplete data tables easier to read.  With Breve, you can identify the gaps, errors, and inconsistencies that would be easy to miss with a traditional table.  You can also edit the values and dimensions of the data and save your changes to a new .CSV file.
