Government Information

Federal Government Finding Tools

The Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) was established by Congress to ensure that the American public has access to its Government's information. The FDLP is administered by the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO).

Since 1813, select U.S. Government documents have been made available throughout the United States and its territories to designated libraries. These designated libraries are called Federal depository libraries.

The Rebecca Crown Library has been a Federal Depository Library since 1966 selecting 34% of all publications printed by the Government Printing Office.  Recently, the library has become a digital only member.  While the Crown Library does maintain print holdings, the library no longer receives print material as of September 15, 2016.

Getting Started

The Rebecca Crown Library provides free pubic access, regardless of format, to all Federal government information selected for its collection. These formats include but are not limited to: digital, paper, microfiche, microfilm, CDs, and maps. Equipment is available to utilize the various formats of government information. The library also provides reference assistance & unfiltered searching of any U.S. government website.

If you are just getting started, you might want to visit the FDLP Basic E-Collection in this guide, or select one of the other subject tabs above.  General finding tools are listed to the right.

The majority of government documents today can be found online.  However, the physical government document collection of the Rebecca Crown Library is housed in their own designated area on the second floor of the library and organized according to SuDoc number .

Since many of these items are not listed in the Library's online catalog, please use the Catalog of US Government Publications (CGP) to get the SuDoc number(s) for the information you want.  The SuDoc number will help you locate the item in our collection.

The Rebecca Crown Library adheres to the current Legal Requirements & Program Regulations of the Federal Depository Library Program.  For questions about the Government Documents collection at Rebecca Crown Library, please contact Heather Parisi at (708) 524-6872 or govdocs@dom.edu.
