Welcome!

What is the difference between embroidery and sewing?

Sewing

The purpose of sewing is to create the structure of a garment or piece by joining pieces of fabric together. Sewing can be done by hand or machine and is used to create seams, hems, and attach buttons. Sewing threads are thicker and stronger than embroidery threads and are designed to hold fabric pieces together.

Embroidery

The purpose of embroidery is to enhance the look of fabric by adding decorative designs, patterns, logos, and motifs. Embroidery often involves intricate stitching and an array of colors and threads. Embroidery threads are frequently finer and more delicate than sewing threads and are designed to create elaborate patterns without overwhelming the fabric. Embroidery thread is also usually glossy, shiny, sparkly, or metallic in finish.
