Applied Social Justice PHD

The Social Justice Standards are a road map for anti-bias education at every stage of K–12 instruction. Comprised of anchor standards and age-appropriate learning outcomes, the Standards provide a common language and organizational structure educators can use to guide curriculum development and make schools more just and equitable.

There are 421 civil rights and advocacy organizations in the greater Chicago metro area, including the cities of Chicago, Bolingbrook, Des Plaines, Elgin, Evanston, Hoffman Estates, Naperville, Schaumburg, Skokie, and Gary within the states of Illinois and Indiana. Combined, these Chicago metro civil rights and social justice organizations employ 2,164 people, earn more than $249 million in revenue each year, and have assets of $204 million.

Social and institutional systems do not adequately serve survivors of sexual violation, which harms marginalized communities at the highest rates. To create the greatest change and best support survivors, our programs seek to break down inequity and focus on those most impacted, including people who are girls and women, of color, LGBTQ+, living with disabilities, experiencing poverty, immigrants, or undocumented.

Our goal is one of public service: to listen to and center people affected by institutional injustices and provide our community with the perspectives, information, and resources needed to hold power to account.

Our mission is to achieve equity, political rights, and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminate discrimination, and accelerate the well-being, education, and economic security of Black people and all persons of color.

For more than a century the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has worked to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.

We work to disrupt inequality, dismantle racism, and accelerate change in key areas including criminal justice, health care, education, climate, and the economy.

We are a grassroots organization fighting for Black Liberation and for a fair and inclusive society that benefits all people. We organize Black workers and their families to address the root causes of high rates of unemployment, low-wage work and over-criminalization impacting Black communities.

The Young Center is a champion for the best interests of children who arrive in the United States on their own, from all corners of the world. We serve as trusted allies for these children while they are in deportation proceedings, advocating for their best interests, and standing for the creation of a dedicated children’s immigrant justice system that ensures the safety and well-being of every child.
