The McGreal Center is a research center, archives, and special collections library at Dominican University. We promote the research and writing of the history of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) in the United States through care of historical materials and collaboration with Dominican organizations and communities. We are home to over 35 archival and records collections about Dominican nuns, nationwide Dominican organizations, and individual Dominican scholars.
Our research collection includes over 1,000 published works on Dominican history and spirituality, parish and diocesan history, and Dominican biography, including difficult to find books published by Dominican communities. We also house various Dominican and Catholic journals, and a large collection of articles and other secondary sources on US Dominican history for Project OPUS.
• Full congregational record from the Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Lancaster, PA, a former community of Dominican nuns
• Parable Conference for Dominican Life and Mission Records, which chronicle one of the first collaborative Dominican organizations
• Sister Suzanne Noffke, OP, Saint Catherine of Siena Papers, which include extensive notes on Sr. Noffke’s authoritative work dating St. Catherine of Siena’s letters
• Fr. Richard Woods, OP Papers, which provide insight into the personal and professional life of a modern Friar
The McGreal Center also cares for the active records of several Dominican organizations. Research is permitted by permission of the organization.
We are open to all researchers year-round by appointment.
