Guide to the Archives and Special Collections at the McGreal Center for Dominican Historical Studies

Remote Reference

General procedures

For researchers unable to visit the McGreal Center, remote reference and scanning services are available. Please email the Archivist at mcgrealcenter@dom.edu with your request. Include the collection title, box and folder number from the finding aid, and any deadlines. General questions are welcome, but due to limited staffing, will delay turnaround time.

Turnaround time

Due to staffing levels, please allow at least one week for scans to be delivered for simple requests. Complex research requests may require additional time. The Archivist will respond to reference inquiries within three business days.

Collection-level restrictions

Many of our collections are partially restricted, or require researchers to obtain permission from the creating organization prior to research. Review the Conditions Governing Access note at the top of the online finding aid to determine whether you will need to obtain third-party permission to access. The Archivist may also request permission on your behalf.

Accessing the Archives

Portions of our archival collection are available to researchers.  Once you have registered with the Archivist, she will assist you in accessing materials for your research. Because archival materials are unique, one-of-a-kind resources, we ask that you handle them with great care so that they will continue to be available into the future.

Library Collections

Our books and periodicals are non-circulating. This means that we welcome you to read them with us onsite, but you will not be able to take books or magazines home with you. We are happy to set aside books that you are reading for easier access during your next visit.
