The Higher Education Act of 1965 was created to provide resources to colleges and students. This Act created the designation of "Hispanic Serving Institution," or HSI, a federal designation of accredited non-profit institutions with a 25% or higher enrollment rate of full-time undergraduate students. Dominican University has held this distinction since 2011. Visit the HSI website to learn more.
Previously the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, in 2017 this department became the Office of Justice, Equity, and Inclusion. Under both names, this office has served Dominican University for over 10 years. The goal is to support students and faculty and create a welcoming campus for all. Visit their page to learn more.
In 2019, following the efforts of students, the University began work on a new multicultural advising office, combining El Centro, an advising office aimed at Hispanic students, with the mentoring group The Village. This advising center briefly operated under the El Centro name before the center was redesigned and renamed, opening in September 2020 as the Center for Cultural Liberation, or CCL.
