Opening DaVinci Resolve might be unintuitive at first, as each student account will not have a desktop shortcut added by default. However, opening the program will take just a few extra steps.
- Start by opening File Explorer, the manila folder icon on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
- In that window, make sure [This PC] is selected in the left-hand column. This should usually be the default when File Explorer is opened.
- Once you’ve made sure you’re on [This PC], click on OSDisk [C:], which should be the only icon under the [Devices and Drives] section.
- Once inside OSDisk [C:], click the [Program Files] folder. Careful not to confuse it with the [Program Files (x86)] folder.
- In [Program Files], go into the [Blackmagic Design] folder, then [DaVinci Resolve] which should be the only folder inside.
- Finally, scroll down until you see an icon decorated with a blue, red, and green tricolor named [Resolve]. Double clicking on this will open up DaVinci Resolve itself.
To skip repeating this process, right click the [Resolve] application you found, then select [Pin to taskbar] or [Create shortcut] depending on if you’d prefer the DaVinci icon to be on the taskbar or desktop.
Once DaVinci launches, the [Project Manager] will open, and you’ll be prompted to start a new project. To do this, double click on [Untitled Project]. This is also where you can choose to continue working on saved files.
